NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Citizenship Amendment Act will be brought into effect before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The home minister added that the BJP will come to power for the third time in a row under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by winning nearly 370 seats. He was speaking at the ET Now Global Business Summit.
“Muslim brothers in the country have misunderstood the Citizenship Amendment Act. This amendment only means to give citizenship to the people who faced religious persecution from neighbouring Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
There should not be any confusion. The notification work for CAA will be completed before the Lok Sabha polls.
The upcoming election is not between the NDA and INDIA alliance. It is a fight between people who work for development and people who simply raise slogans."
Meanwhile, Amit Shah also criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Naya Yatra. He said Rahul had no moral right to continue such a yatra to unify India after being the scion of the Nehru family, who was responsible for India’s partition.
