KOCHI: Kunnathunad Excise on Monday arrested a man for selling banned drugs to migrant workers. Ibrahim Ali, a native of Assam, was arrested with 9.247 kg of ganja. The excise department after receiving a tip-off decided to circle Ali’s residence and then took him into custody.

However, Ali’s arrest was received with shock by many in the area, since the Assam native led a modest living and was amicable with all. The ganja seized from Ali is worth lakhs in the market. Among migrant workers and drug users in the city, Ali was known by his sobriquet ‘Assam Baba’.

The investigation was led by Kunnathunad Excise Circle Inspector S. Binu. Assistant Excise Inspector Salim Yusuf, Assistant Excise Inspector K T Saju, Preventive Officer C B Renju, Civil Excise Officers MR Rajesh, PR Anuraj, MA Asainar and AB Suresh participated in the inspection.
