‘My Gods are before me, wanted to see them'; Surya shocked when Minister Ganesh Kumar and wife visited her teashop

KOLLAM: Minister K B Ganesh Kumar and his wife Bindu Menon visited Surya again to inquire about her well-being. Ganesh Kumar had earlier constructed a house for her. He and his wife unexpectedly visited the teashop, run by her and her grandmother of Vettikavala in Kottarakkara. The minister spent a long time in the teashop asking her about her welfare and left after cracking jokes and having food.

‘The teashop is near Vettikkavala Mahadeva Temple. The food served here is good as what we eat from home. Surya's grandmother monitors everything. They were staying behind the curtain in the tea shop. After moving to the new house, all her tension has gone. She has become more beautiful. Life behind the curtain was the pain she suffered from age four. As that changed, she has become smarter,’ said the minister.

'Despite all these problems, she studied well and got admission in S N College. You should study well again and become a good officer. People should come to see you with their demands. We are there for everything and there is nothing to fear. I will come here again. I prefer to eat from small tea stalls rather from a five-star hotel,’ said Ganesh Kumar.

Surya also shared the joy of the unexpected arrival of the minister. 'Never expected Ganesh Sir to come. Bindu Chechi calls me always. I’m very happy after they had food from my teashop. I had wanted to see them, she said. Her grandmother said the gods in her mind are standing before her. With tears, she said that she sees Bindu Menon as her own daughter, who is no more.

A house was built for Surya and her grandmother with the intervention of Ganesh Kumar, even before he became a minister. Surya lost her parents at a very young age. She was then looked after by her grandmother, who was running the teashop. Ganesh Kumar constructed a house for them with the help of Jose, an American Malayali.
