THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said that the government cannot order a CBI investigation into the murder of Dr. Vandana Das at the Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital by a patient. He replied in the assembly to Mons Joseph, who invited the CM's attention, that there was no need for any special squad investigation in this matter.

"The parents of Dr. Vandana Das had filed a petition in the High Court demanding that the investigation of the case was unsatisfactory and the case should be handed over to the CBI. The High Court dismissed the petition as the investigation had already been completed and the charge sheet had been filed and no other specific reasons could be found. Mons Joseph says that the government should order a CBI probe, apart from that high court stand. Order on what basis? Everything has been thoroughly investigated. A charge sheet has been filed. There are no specific complaints. There is no need for a special squad investigation in this matter," said the Chief Minister.

"Dr. Vandana Das's murder was thoroughly investigated and a charge sheet was submitted to the court within 90 days. This shows that the steps to be taken by the police in connection with the case were done without any delay. Vandana Das, who was seriously injured in the attack, was immediately rushed by the police to a private hospital in Kottarakkara. Later she was admitted to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. The police intervened to provide treatment as soon as possible," he added.
