Destroyed fields set to harvest; Ottapalam Municipality kills 35 wild boars

OTTAPALAM: 35 wild boars from 11 wards of the municipality were shot dead. The municipality took action to legally shoot the wild boars due to the heavy losses seen in the agricultural sector.


The hunt for wild boars was led by Ali N Shan, K P Devakumar and V J Thomas, trained and licensed by the forest department. Farmers were forced to abandon rice cultivation due to their annoyance. Wild boars are destroying many cultivated fields which are set to harvest. In the meantime, Ottapalam Municipal Corporation is hunting wild boars following the demand of farmers.

High-level Tamil Nadu officials also visited Ottapalam recently to learn the steps taken to legally kill wild boars and the scientific work being done to kill them.
