Charge sheet against former DGP's daughter for assaulting police driver

highcourt

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The crime branch has filed a charge sheet against former DGP Sudesh Kumar's daughter Snigdha in the Thiruvananthapuram Judicial First Class Magistrate's Court in the case of assaulting police driver Gavaskar. Interestingly, the charge sheet is prepared five and half years after the incident. According to the commissioner, the delay in the charge sheet was due to the inability to locate eyewitnesses in the case.

At the same time, the crime branch found Snigdha's complaint against Gavaskar that he castigated her on a caste basis, and groped her by the arm to be fallacious. A report in this regard has also been submitted to the court.

The incident took place on June 14, 2018. Gavaskar was beaten badly after he took Snigdha for her morning walk in Kanakakunnu. On the previous day of the incident, Gavaskar was seen talking with IPS officers who came to give training to Snigdha. The former DGP’s daughter mistook this candor conversation and alleged that it was about her that Gavaskar was talking about. This led to an altercation.

Gavaskar had to undergo treatment for several months after sustaining a severe neck injury.

There was pressure on Gavaskar to withdraw the complaint. The investigation was completed two years ago and the report was sent to the head of the crime branch for approval.

Legal advice pointed out that since it was a private trip with the DGP's family, it could not be considered a dereliction of duty. The crime branch connived at delaying the case. It was only after Gavaskar approached the high court that the charge sheet was issued.
