PULPALLY: Police unleashed lathi charge on locals after protests flared up in Wayanad over continuing human deaths in wild animal attacks. Locals however continue to protest with the body of Paul, who was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Kuruvadweep. ‘Police go back’ slogans are also heard from the protest site.
Midway through the protest, locals hurled chairs and bottles at MLAs who came to visit the protest site, which made the police retaliate.
Meanwhile, some of the protestors tied the carcass of a cow on top of the forest department jeep as a protest. The cow was mauled to death the previous day by a tiger. The locals also placed a wreath on the jeep.
Locals even threatened to boycott the next election for the government's continuous neglect of Wayanad which was also seen in the recent budget. The locals have decided to continue the protest until the district collector and others reach the spot and give assurances about compensation.
The people now have demanded Rs 50 lakh for Paul's family, a debt waiver and a government job for one family member.
