THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Despite starting its election preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the BJP is yet to confirm its candidate for the Thiruvananthapuram constituency. Meanwhile, the party is considering senior BJP leader Kummanam Rajasekharan for Kollam and Pathanamthitta. BDJS will be contesting in Mavelikkara and Kottayam. It has been confirmed that Suresh Gopi will contest in Thrissur while Union Minister V Muraleedharan will contest in Attingal.
ISRO Chairman S Somnath, former Chairman G Madhavan Nair, Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai, Metroman E Sreedharan, actor Krishnakumar etc. are being considered in Thiruvananthapuram. The party wants to field a person with a gentle and progressive image like O. Rajagopal in the constituency. In the past, the BJP had lost in Thiruvananthapuram as it was not able to win the votes of religious minorities. Experience has shown that those with uncompromising stances like Kummanam Rajasekharan cannot win the trust of the minorities. Kummanam is interested in contesting in Pathanamthitta. Pathanamthitta, which includes Sabarimala, was Kummanam's land of action for a very long time. The party also has strong roots in Pathanamthitta. The party reports that Kummanam's presence in Pathanamthitta will be beneficial. At the same time, if PC George or his son Shaun George, who joined the party recently, is named the candidate in Pathanamthitta, Kummanam will be considered in Kollam. Anil Antony, who joined the party, is also being considered in Pathanamthitta. Ernakulam and Chalakudy constituencies are the other constituencies where Anil Antony is being considered.
It is indicated that K. Surendran, who contested in Pathanamthitta last time, will not be in the contest this time.
Woman leader and state vice president Sobha Surendran is being considered in Palakkad and Kozhikode. Sobha had put up a good fight in the last Lok Sabha elections. Palakkad state general secretary C. Krishna Kumar and Kozhikode state general secretary M.T. Ramesh are also being considered.
