Manichitrathazhu is a classic film that released on December 23rd in 1993. The film starring Mohanlal, Shobana and Suresh Gopi in lead roles were remade into many languages. The film had garnered many awards. However, actor Jaffer Idukki said that if the film had released today, it would not have been a success. He said this in an interview.

'If the film was released today, it wouldn’t have been a success. The reason is some will capture the suspense of the movie on their phones on the first day itself. They will say Shobana plays Nagavally and that everyone should watch the film. The shoot of the film would have been shifted to a cave or something. There are problems like that. People’s phone recording has become a major nuisance on film sets. Even if we warn them, they will record. Do you know how much worried the producer would be if someone does that? Do you know how much money is spent to produce a film. That makes a single click nothing,’ said Jaffer Idukki.

The story of Manichitrathazhu is that of Madhu Muttam. The film directed by Faasil, had Priyadarshan, Siddique-Lal and Sibi Malayil as second unit directors. Thilakan, Nedumudi Venu, Vinaya Prasad, Innocent, KPAC Lalitha, Sudheesh, Ganesh Kumar, Sreedhar, Kuthiravattam Pappu, Rudra and many other stars were in the film. Johnson's background msic and M G Radhakrishnan's melody made the film more beautiful. The film produced by Appachan under the banner of Swargachitra earned five crores.
