Woman commits suicide by jumping into river from Karuvannur bridge

KARUVANNUR: A woman committed suicide by jumping into the river from Karuvannur bridge. The deceased has been identified as Sheeba Joy (50) of Koodali House in Avittathur. The incident happened at noon on Tuesday. After leaving her shoes, bag and mobile phone on the bridge, the woman jumped into the river from the bridge.

Iringalakuda and Cherpu police reached the spot. The body was found around 3.30 pm after a long search by the Iringalakuda Fire Force and the scuba team. A few weeks ago, another woman committed suicide by jumping into the river in the same place. The next day, a young man's dead body was also recovered from the river. A few months ago, a youth and a student committed suicide by jumping into the river in a similar manner. The residents of the area demanded that iron nets be placed on top of the bridge to provide security and tubes filled with air should be placed near the bridge for rescue operations as suicides have become regular occurence at Karuvannur bridge.
