Yuvraj Singh tipped to become BJP candidate for LS polls

NEW DELHI: There are indications that former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh will be the BJP candidate in Punjab's Gurdaspur instead of sitting MP and Bollywood star Sunny Deol. Rumours of Yuvraj joining the BJP got stronger after his recent meeting with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Sunny Deol did not perform as expected. He had said that politics is not for him and he will not contest elections. Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal had criticized Sunny Deol for not looking after his constituency and people should not let such people win. Late actor Vinod Khanna had reached the Lok Sabha from Gurdaspur constituency in 1998, 1999, 2004 and 2014 under the BJP banner.

Sidhu back to BJP?

Rumours of another former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu leaving the Congress and rejoining the BJP are also rife. There are indications that Sidhu will join the BJP along with three MLAs.

He was close to Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi and openly violated the party directives by joining the state Congress unit. However, Congress leader Raman Bakshi rejected the possibility of joining the BJP. Some leaders also hinted that there is a possibility of Congress fielding Sidhu from a constituency other than Amritsar. Senior Punjab Congress leader Manish Tiwari was also rumoured to join the BJP.
