February 2023 Chadayamangalam accident; KSRTC dismisses driver, investigation to follow

KOLLAM: A KSRTC bus driver was dismissed from service for his reckless driving that took the lives of two youngsters in Chadayamangalam. Driver R Binu was dismissed for the accident that took place on February 28, 2023.

The parents of the victims are hell-bent on proceeding legally with the demand that the driver be charged with murder. Binu was sacked by the corporation following persistent intervention by the parents demanding an investigation. The order was issued by the Executive Director of Vigilance, KSRTC.

The accident took place on February 28 at 7:30 in the morning at Kuriyode on MC Road. The deceased were identified as Shikha (20), daughter of Ajayakumar and Bindu, owner of Shikha Constructions in Punalur Tholicode, and Abhijith (19), son of army officer Ranjith R Nair and Lakshmi in Punalur Kakode.

Shikha was a second-year BTech (Civil) student at Kilimanoor Thattathumala Vidya Academy of Science and Technology. Abhijith, a BCA student of Musaliar College in Pathanamthitta came from Punalur to drop Shikha at her college.

The bus travelling from Chadayamangalam to Thiruvananthapuram rammed behind the bike which was travelling in the same direction. Shikha died on the spot after the rear wheel of the bus ran over her head portion. It was also alleged that the people who passed by theaccident spot were not ready to take the victims to the hospital.
