Lok Sabha elections: TMC fields former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan from Berhampore

KOLKATA: Former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan is all set to test new waters by contesting the upcoming LS polls in a Trinamool Congress ticket. Yusuf will contest from Berhampore constituency in Bengal and will face Congress Lok Sabha chairperson Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. Congress has not yet announced the candidate in the constituency but Chowdhury’s name is more likely to be considered.

The Trinamool Congress announced Yusuf's candidature after he joined the party at a function held at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata. Trinamool Congress president Mamata Banerjee has announced the details of those contesting in 42 seats in Bengal on Sunday. Mamata Banerjee also rejected the proposal of alliance formation with other INDIA parties in the LS election. Meanwhile, expelled MP Mahua Moitra, who was currently rumoured to be at odds with TMC leadership got nominated again as a candidate from Krishnanagar.

Apart from Yusuf Pathan, Bollywood actor Shatrughan Prasad Sinha will contest from Asansol while actress Rachana Banerjee will contest from Hooghly against incumbent MP Locket Chatterjee.
