Criticism against 'Manjummel Boys': Protest intensifying against writer Jeyamohan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The protest has intensified against renowned Tamil and Malayalam writer and screenwriter Jeyamohan, who insulted the Malayalam cinema and the Malayalis by writing a blog about the film 'Manjummel Boys'. Several people, including those from the political and film industry, came forward against Jeyamohan.

Jeyamohan in his blog gave a sly headline ‘Kudikaraporukikalin Koothatam’ which means ‘frivolities of wayward drunkards’ while writing about 'Manjummel Boys'. Jeyamohan, who started his blog criticizing the movie, later took shots at Keralites and Malayalis in general. He wrote that the film was a disturbing one and that like many other Malayalam films, it was also a film that normalized drug addiction. The criticism comes at a time when the movie is also running in packed houses in Tamil Nadu.

However, CPM PB member MA Baby accused Jeyamohan of trying to create a controversy by attacking this film as part of the Sangh Parivar's attempt to insult the Malayalis and Kerala. Director B. Unnikrishnan said that the revelation of hatred written about the film by Jeyamohan does not deserve any mercy.

Earlier, actor and Tamil Nadu Minister Udayanidhi Stalin had wrote on social media that 'Manjummel Boys' is a must-watch movie that should not be missed in theatres. Veteran actor Kamal Haasan also appreciated the crew of the film.

Meanwhile, 'Manjummel Boys' has become the second highest grosser in Malayalam by entering the 150 crore club. '2018', which collected more than 175 crores, is in the first position. 'Manjummel Boys' also became the first Malayalam film to collect one million dollars in America.
