IDUKKI: The Election Expenditure Monitoring System has started functioning in Idukki district to keep track of expenses of the candidates in connection with the Lok Sabha elections and to ensure free and fair elections. District Collector Sheeba George informed that observers, flying squad, static surveillance team and video surveillance team have also started functioning as part of election monitoring.

The Collector appealed to the public to cooperate to the best of their ability during the vehicle inspection with the officials deputed for transparent conduct of the election. Those carrying more than Rs 50,000 in cash should carry adequate documents. Those carrying gifts and other items should also carry the documents during the journey.

The collector also suggested that all banks should make it possible for the candidates to open a new account as candidates should keep a separate account. A declaration form with photograph of the persons entrusted for printing of campaign materials should be procured and a copy of the same should be submitted to the Collector who is the District Election Officer. Information about the printer, publisher and number of copies should be included in the election campaign materials. The collector also asked the printing presses that print campaign materials to inform the information and the owners of auditoriums and convention centers booking their establishments for election purpose as soon as possible.
