More weather trouble awaits Kerala in coming days, warns IMD

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The weather in the state got extremely hot by the middle of February. Since the beginning of March, it has becoming tiring task to go out during the day. The alert of the Meteorological Department is issued daily in the state. But the weather centres is giving an indication that the temperature is likely to go up.

Indian Meteorological Department has warned that the heat will increase further in the state. From today till March 20, the maximum temperature in Palakkad and Kollam districts is likely to rise to 39 degrees Celsius, in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Kottayam districts, the maximum temperature is likely to rise to 37 degrees Celsius and in Thrissur and Kozhikode districts, the maximum temperature is likely to rise to 36 degrees Celsius (2-4 degrees Celsius above normal).

It is predicted that the heat will be felt at its maximum intensity by the month of April. There are also indications that the summer rains will get in between, but the heat may not decrease significantly. Meteorologists also pointed out that due to high temperature and humid air, there is a possibility of hot and humid weather from today till March 20 in the above districts, except in the hilly areas.

The Meteorological Department has also issued a yellow alert in these districts. The Met department has also warned of a possibility of light to moderate rains today and on March 20 and 21. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts are under rain warning today. Rain is forecast for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts on March 20 and Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts on March 21.
