HYDERABAD: Telangana Governor and Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has resigned. It is suggested that he will contest on BJP ticket in the Lok Sabha elections. Before becoming the governor, he was the president of the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP.
In 2019, the 62-year-old Tamilisai took charge as the second governor of Telangana. Also given additional charge as Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry in February 2021. It is reported that Tamilisai will contest from Puducherry, the only Lok Sabha seat held by the Congress. Rumour has it that he will contest one of the three Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu. Reports are also coming out that he will contest from Tuticorin against DMK's Kanimozhi.
In 2019, Tamilsai contested in Thoothukudi but failed. In 2009, when he contested from Chennai North seat, he did not win. He lost to DMK's TKS Ilangovan. He also contested the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly three times. He contested from Radhapuram in 2006, Velachery in 2011 and Virugampakkam in 2016. But failed to succeed all three times. It lost to DMK and AIDMK that day.
During his tenure as governor, Tamilisai frequently clashed with the then ruling BRS government. The BRS government had also approached the Supreme Court against Tamilisai for delaying the signing of bills.
