Technical glitches result in collapse of building permits, tax payment services

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The glitches seen in the online system, which was inaugurated on New Year’s Eve to speed up the functioning of the local bodies in the city area, have not been resolved yet even after two months.

Services including birth, death and marriage registration certificates work fine but the trouble comes for everything from building permits to paying taxes. Due to the unattended glitches in the system, even banks are delaying loans for people because the building owner's signature is not present on the permits.

When the application is submitted by both the licensee and the owner, the signatures of both will be scanned. Only the licensee's signature and the building owner's Aadhaar number are present when the permit is obtained. It is also alleged that there is no digital signature of the officer.

Major errors:

  • Applications to be received by the concerned officer are going somewhere else.

  • Applications reach wrong Zonal offices.

  • Unable to know the status of applications

  • The number of houses and the names of the owners are in muddled format

  • Information on tax paid earlier is not available.

  • Trade and commercial licenses cannot be renewed.
