BJP may field firebrand leader Nupur Sharma from Gandhi bastion Rae Bareli, social media erupts

The third and final list of candidates of BJP will soon be published and amidst this comes rumours about the saffron party planning to field firebrand leader Nupur Sharma from the Gandhi family bastion Rae Bareli. Discussions are going on about whether to field Nupur from the bastion of Congress where Sonia Gandhi has hitherto contested unrivalled. However, in 2024, Sonia Gandhi hinted at a probable exit from electoral politics as she decided to reach parliament through a Rajya Sabha seat thus opening doors for new entrants from Congress to try their luck from the constituency.

Social media, mostly BJP-affiliated pages have already gone wild with celebrations, with posters and photos of Nupur Sharma being shared rampantly. Some are already expecting a unilateral victory for Nupur if she is fielded from the Gandhi stronghold.

Earlier there were reports about Priyanka Gandhi contesting elections from Rae Bareli. Nothing conclusive has been reached on this decision yet. If Nupur Sharma makes entry into LS polls from the bastion of Rae Bareli, it will surely be one such constituency that grabs many eyeballs across the nation.

In 2022, Nupur Sharma, the firebrand orator and lawyer, had to go into oblivion after her remark in a television debate sparked controversy which even led to a redressal from the Supreme Court. Nupur remained estranged for two years before making a comeback into active politics. She also received death threats from extremists for her remarks made in the debate which many considered as blasphemy.
