Supreme Court implements policy to omit accused names in false harassment complaints

s

NEW DELHI: In cases where a sexual harassment complaint is found to be false, the Supreme Court has initiated a process to exclude the accused's name from the judgment, replacing it with 'X'. Yesterday, the Supreme Court cancelled the FIR against the accused in a case involving rape by promise of marriage, after the complaint was deemed false. In this order, the accused was addressed as 'X' and the complainant as 'A'. The order came from a bench headed by Justice BR Gavai.

In another Supreme Court order issued on March 7, which dismissed a sexual harassment case as false, four X's (XXXX) were used in place of the accused's name. Additionally, in sexual assault cases, there are laws prohibiting the disclosure of the victim's information.
