KOLLAM: The Motor Vehicle Department is all set to strategically reintroduce the reforms made in driving tests, albeit facing an initial backlash. With the target of bringing the reforms within a month and a half, the department has now reduced the slots for learner's tests taking place in a day.

Two weeks back, people who applied for learner's license tests received slots of exams within the same week. But now, the department has cut short the slots in such a way that the applicant needs to wait for at least two months to appear in the test.

Only 30 learner test slots are allotted in a day under the Kollam RT office. The plan is to strictly evaluate the learner's license exam, intending to cut short the win percentage in the exams. This will significantly reduce the number of people eligible for appearing in the driving license test, which will invariably help the officials to strictly monitor the test, without any haste.

If the restrictions continue, the wait for the learner's test and driving test will be longer for applicants in the coming days. Earlier, learners and driving tests were conducted for up to 150 people in a day under the Kollam RT office.

Reform:

  • Move to implement the reform strategically

  • People intending to travel abroad for work will be in trouble

  • Driving schools will soon shift base to neighbouring states

  • State government revenue will fall

  • Will make it difficult to apply for the PSC exam
