THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A KSEB transformer fell onto the road at 8:30 in the morning in Kazhakoottam due to damage to a pipe. This incident caused a significant traffic jam on the road. The transformer, previously relocated for the construction of the national highway, toppled onto the road, leading to a halt in traffic from Kazhakoottam to Pallipuram. Subsequently, buses and other vehicles were diverted. Currently, traffic flow has been restored.
The passenger in a car traveling on this road during the transformer's fall escaped with minor injuries. The pipes supplying drinking water to the Pallipuram CRPF camp were damaged. The transformer collapsed when water was flowing through this pipe after repair. The damaged water pipe caused the soil beneath the transformer to become saturated, leading to its collapse. Local residents claim that the transformer fell due to being placed in unstable, dusty soil.
