THRISSUR: Yet another complaint has been lodged against LDF candidate VS Sunil Kumar for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct. It was KPCC working president and MP TN Prathapan who lodged the complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer.

Prathapan filed the complaint against Sunil Kumar for installing a flex board containing pictures of Triprayar Temple and Triprayar Thevar at Chirakkal in the Nattika assembly constituency. Using pictures of religious institutions and symbols for election campaigning is a violation of the Model Code of Conduct. In his complaint, Prathapan demanded that an investigation should be conducted and action should be taken against Sunil Kumar. He has also lodged a complaint with Collector VR Krishna Teja, the District Election Officer.

Seeking votes in the name of religion, god or caste is a violation of the election code of conduct. The Election Commission can take action against the candidates for this.

Earlier, Sunil Kumar had found himself in trouble after he shared a picture with actor Tovino Thomas on his social media page. Sunil Kumar withdrew the picture after Tovino made it clear that he was the ambassador for Kerala for the Election Commission’s SVEEP (Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation) program and so it was against the law to use his photos for any kind of election campaigning.
