THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the summer heat intensifying, electricity consumption in the state has once again reached an all-time high. 103.86 million units of electricity were consumed on March 26, while 104.63 million units were consumed yesterday.
5197 MW of electricity was consumed from 6 pm to 11 pm on Wednesday. The previous day, the state registered a record by consuming 5301 MW of electricity during this time. As summer heats up, fans, coolers, and ACs run longer in homes, leading to an increase in electricity consumption.
Meteorological centres have predicted that the heat will further increase in the month of April. Therefore, electricity consumption is likely to rise further. As the summer heat is becoming unbearable, the sale of ACs is increasing. This has also resulted in increased power consumption.
As electricity consumption will increase in the next two months, the state is more likely to experience power shortages. However, people are hoping that the government is not likely to increase power tariffs or introduce load shedding as the elections are just a month away.
