Cong to stage protest against IT Dept's notice to pay Rs 1823 cr, says Modi govt's action akin to hanging democracy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC Acting President MM Hassan on Friday said that the Income Tax Department's notice to the Congress demanding immediate payment of Rs 1823.08 crore with the election approaching is like hanging the democracy. "The Congress will stage a strong protest dharna tomorrow in front of the Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode offices of the Income Tax Department in protest against the demonic action of the Modi government. I request the party workers and democrats to participate in the dharna," Hassan said.

"The Income Tax Department has already forcibly seized Rs 135 crore from the Congress account. The bank accounts of the Congress and its allies were also frozen. Even in totalitarian countries such measures are only hearsay," he added.
