Warning of swell waves in state, coastal residents alerted; tourists restricted

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a warning of swell waves in the state today. There is a possibility of rough seas and high waves. Coastal residents have been alerted. Tourists are also restricted.

Directions were given asking fishermen and coastal residents to be careful, stay away from danger zones, tie the boats safely etc.

Swell waves lashed Alappuzha, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Thrissur yesterday. 500 houses were flooded and around 100 families were relocated. Strong waves hit the shore yesterday afternoon.

Rain likely
The central meteorological department has informed that there is a possibility of moderate rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Ernakulam in the next three hours and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph.

Boat capsizes
The boat overturned and flowed into the sea. Two sustained injuries. Five fishermen were rescued. The accident happened Monday morning at 6.45 am.
