PATHANAMTHITTA: Daisy, wife of Biju stated that the elephant charged towards Biju as he came out from the house with his headlights on to drive it away. His wife informed the media that both of them went out together to confront the elephant. Biju was killed in the attack of a wild elephant at two o'clock in the morning today.
‘Upon hearing the elephant's presence outside our house, we exited together. Frightened, we initially retreated upon hearing the elephant's cry. Initially, we moved towards the road together. I asked my husband not to proceed further. However, he saw the elephant approaching the house and went out again. He had only gone a short distance when the elephant charged towards him upon spotting the headlights. With dense forest surrounding, escaping was impossible. By the time I approached with a light, he was dead,’ Daisy said.
Biju's body was found 50 meters away from the house. The locals refused to allow the body's removal until District Collector Prem Krishna arrived. Meanwhile, the district collector assured that the first phase of compensation would be promptly provided to the auto driver Biju's family. Additionally, the collector mentioned that a recommendation for employing Biju's son would be forwarded to the government.
