Devi, daughter of renowned wildlife photographer Balan Madhavan; shocking details about Arunachal mass suicide

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Devi, one among the three who committed suicide in Itanagar, is the daughter of renowned wildlife photographer Balan Madhavan. It was on this morning at 11:30 that the Arunachal Pradesh SP informed Balan Madhavan about the death news. The respected photographer was shattered by the news of his daughter’s strange death and said both Devi and her husband led a happy life devoid of any troubles. Naveen and Devi's wedding took place in Thiruvananthapuram in 2011.

Naveen, his wife Devi and her friend Arya (29) were found dead in the hotel room in Itanagar on Tuesday. It is reported that all three had different injuries on their bodies. Bleeding from these wounds resulted in death. A suicide note was also recovered from the room, which mentioned a cryptic note; “Lived happily for all these years, now going”. Police also confirmed that all three friends in their final days, foraged Google to learn more about ‘Life after death’.

Naveen was involved in online trading and was mostly reclusive. Even among neighbours and relatives, Naveen was an enigma as he used to be cloistered in his world. Devi used to teach German in a private school where she met Arya, another teacher. Their relationship soon bloomed into a close friendship. Police earlier received a complaint about Arya’s missing from Thiruvananthapuram on March 27th. It was while doing the investigation that news about the Naveen-Devi couple emerged.

Naveen and Devi had informed close relatives about going on a vacation to the northeast. The relatives aware of the couple’s penchant for travelling had no reason to doubt. During the investigation related to Arya's disappearance, it was found that the three had gone to Assam from Thiruvananthapuram airport by IndiGo flight. On Tuesday morning, the Itanagar police informed the families about the death.

“Devi used to live in Naveen’s house in Kottayam. Only rarely did she visit Thiruvananthapuram. I am not in a condition to speak more on that. I just want to unearth the real reason behind the death. More than anyone I must find it out. Naveen and Devi were Ayurvedic doctors. Devi was very interested in the German language. After learning the language, she worked at Chempaka School for some time before the pandemic. My relative who is settled in Delhi will go to Arunachal. He will surely come with more details regarding the death” said Balan Madhavan.
