K Surendran faces 243 cases; Rahul Gandhi declares assets worth 9.24 crores

KALPATTA: Wayanad NDA candidate K. Surendran has 243 cases against him. There are 18 cases, including 15 defamation cases, against the UDF candidate. Rahul possesses Rs 55,000 as per the asset declaration submitted with the nomination papers. K. Surendran holds Rs 15,000.

Rahul has deposits totaling Rs 26,25,157 in two banks in Delhi, along with a 5838 sq.ft rented building in Delhi Gurugram. His assets amount to Rs 9,24,59,264, inclusive of mutual funds and equity investments in various companies. Sister Priyanka Gandhi holds other assets worth Rs 11,15,02,598, including agricultural lands and rented buildings. Both of them possess approximately four acres of agricultural land and farmhouses valued at 2.1 crores. Rahul's wealth has increased by 3.44 crores in five years.

Surendran does not own a vehicle. He has deposits of Rs 73,000 in two banks, an LIC policy of Rs 3.25 lakh and ten shares of Janmabhoomi newspaper valued at Rs 100 each. In Kozhikode Ulliyeri, he inherited agricultural land worth Rs 15 lakh, a house and a backyard. Additionally, he has a loan liability of Rs.10.53 lakh from SBI West Hill branch. His wife Sheeba owns eight and a quarter cent land and a house, agricultural land worth Rs.6 lakh and land worth Rs.35 lakh in Ulliyeri.

Wife Sheeba has Rs 36,138 and 32 grams of gold in two bank accounts. There are 243 cases against Surendran in different parts of the state. He is accused in the election bribery case of Sultan Bathery in Wayanad. Praseetha Azhikode is an independent candidate from Wayanad who filed the case against Surendran as the first defendant and CK Janu as the second defendant.
