NEW DELHI: In some unusual developments, Microsoft warned India about the ongoing devious plan from China to disrupt the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The technology giant revealed that China conspires to disrupt the elections not only in India but also in America and South Korea.
China recently conducted a trial run of artificial intelligence in Taiwan's presidential election. Microsoft's disclosure comes in the background of this attempt. Bill Gates, the former CEO of Microsoft, visited India last month and held a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The duo also discussed how AI is closely linked to women's empowerment, social issues and innovations in agriculture and healthcare.
Elections are going to be held in 64 countries in the world. 49 per cent of the world's population resides in these countries. China attempts to sabotage all the election processes in these countries that await elections in 2024. A network of Chinese cyber groups has already prepared to counter the move with AI tools, their lethal weapon.
"China is using artificial intelligence to subvert elections in India, the United States, and South Korea, and to create content in their favour," said a press release by Microsoft.
Fake news is China's main plank to influence the elections. The aim is to use AI tools to create fake videos of candidates responding to major issues alerting the country. This will be later disseminated through social media.
China is also planning to influence large business tycoons and enterprises to come in their favour. General elections in India will start on April 19. The result will be declared on June 4. The election will be completed in seven phases.
