Muvattupuzha mob lynching: Ashok suffered brutal beatings, died due to fatal injuries to lungs and head, states autopsy report

KOCHI: According to the police, Ashok Das (24), a native of Arunachal Pradesh, who died in a mob lynching in Muvattupuzha, has faced unparalleled cruelty. The post-mortem report stated that the cause of death was blood clots due to fatal injuries to the head and lungs during brutal thrashing. Muvattupuzha police has arrested ten people in connection with the incident.

The arrested have been identified as Vijeesh, Aneesh, Sathyan, Suraj, Keshav, Elias K Paul, Amal, Athul Krishna, Emil and Sanal, all natives of Valakom. Their arrest was recorded on Saturday morning. The accused were brought to the spot yesterday afternoon and evidence was collected. The investigation is being led by Muvattupuzha DySP PJ Thomas. It is reported that more people are involved in the crime. Some of the visuals of the torture were captured on mobile phones. After the death of Ashok Das, the scenes were removed. These have been recovered with the help of cyber cell. Ashok Das' friend's statement was also recorded. He was attacked while returning after visiting her house in Valakom. The police collected the CCTV footage of the spot.


Ashok Das was a Chinese cook at 'Ruchikoottu Hotel' in Valakom Junction. He became friend with a woman from Thiruvaniyur. He left Valakom a month ago and returned on the day of the incident. At 5.30 in the evening, he went to the rented house of this woman in an intoxicated state. A lawyer who lives with the woman was there at the time. Although he returned, he came back at night and smashed the showcase and other things in the house during an argument. As he was running away with his injured hand, he was spotted by the locals. Ashok died while being taken from Muvattupuzha Taluk Hospital to Kottayam Medical College for expert treatment. The body will be handed over to the relatives today.

Ashok Das was a YouTuber who performed rap music and was known by the name MC Munnu. His songs shot in Kerala have also been uploaded on YouTube.

No mob lynching, says eyewitnesses
Eyewitnesses say that Ashok Das was not beaten to death by a mob. When the locals spotted him with an injured hand, he tried to run away and was caught, tied up and handed over to the police. Eyewitnesses say that he was not beaten after tying him up and it is unknown if he was beaten before that.
