KANNUR: The controversial film ‘The Kerala Story’ will not be screened in churches, informed the diocese of Thalassery. The diocese of Thalassery clarified that no official decision has been taken to screen the film in the churches under the diocese and the direction of Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM) is not that of the diocese. The KCYM had informed to screen the film at Chempanthotty Parish Hall today. Soon the diocese of Thalassery informed their stand. Amidst controversies, the Idukki Diocese had screened the film. It was later propagated that the film will be screened in the Thalassery Diocese.

'No official decision has been taken to screen the film in churches under the diocese. The diocese does not intend to create a rift between religious groups. Can't stand with the politics of the people who made the film. No controversy during elections', the diocese clarified.

Screening the film again in Doordarshan had stoked a controversy. The Idukki Diocese screened the film at a time when both the LDF and the UDF had asked them not to telecast the film. As part of the faith festival, a film screening was held for the students from ten to plus two on April 4. The explanation was that the film was screened as part of an awareness about love. On behalf of Idukki Diocese, Father Jins Karakkat said Kerala story was screened because love jihad still exists in Kerala.
