THODUPUZHA: A policeman has been arrested on the complaint that he harassed a woman by following her in his car and showing lewd gestures at her. The incident took place in Thodupuzha. The arrested policeman has been identified as Murphy (35), a Civil Police Officer at the Kulamavu police station. He was later released on bail.
Idukki district police chief TK Vishnupradeep said that actions, including suspension, will be taken against Murphy. The incident related to the case took place last evening. The woman, who is working in a private company in Thodupuzha, was walking towards her home when Murphy followed her and showed lewd gestures at her.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that Murphy, who followed her in his car, stopped the car in front of her as she reached near the bridge on the Kiliyara road. Following this, he showed obscene gestures at her. The woman said that she ran and entered a nearby shop out of fear as Murphy quickly came out of the car. The policeman left the spot when the people in the shop came out.
The woman lodged the complaint by arriving at the Karimannoor police along with her father. Upon checking the CCTV footage, it was found that the car that followed the woman belonged to the policeman. The person, who was there in the car with Murphy, has also been asked to appear at the police station.
