Wild boar seen in casualty of Konni Medical College

PATHANAMTHITTA: A wild boar barged into the casualty of Konni Medical College Friday early morning at 3 am. There were no patients there at that time and so a major accident was avoided. After creating panic for a while, the wild boar walked through the area where OP tickets were given.

The medical college is located adjacent to Thavalapara forest area in Konni Forest division. Wild boars are regularly seen in the vicinity of the college hostel at night. Gaurs used to visit the courtyard of the medical college at night.

Even though there have been many incidents of wild boar and wild elephants destroying people's lives, snakes are the most problematic people according to the figures of the forest department. It has been alleged that the forest department is taking lightly the killing and injuring of humans by wild boar and wild elephant.

In the past six years, five people have died in the district in incidents of wild boars attacking and jumping over vehicles. More than 100 people were injured. This has been reported by the media and local bodies have collected data. Following the demand from the people, the government empowered the local bodies to shoot and kill the nuisance wild boars. Still, the forest department does not have clear figures on wild boar nuisance.

According to the figures of the forest department, snakes have attacked humans the most. There are no reports of tiger attacks since 2016.
