unnikrishnan

ALUVA: Assistant Postmaster KG Unnikrishnan (53), who went missing from the Aluva Head Post Office while working, was found dead in the godown behind the office on Friday. The dead body was found lying near the shelf where old files were kept when the staff of the post office conducted an inspection yesterday morning after noticing a bad smell from the godown.

Unnikrishnan, who came to work on Wednesday morning, had been missing since 11 am. The body was found while the Aluva police were conducting a probe after registering a missing case.

The preliminary conclusion of the police is that Unnikrishnan might have committed suicide. Sleeping pills were found near the body. Unnikrishnan's colleagues had searched for him in the godown after he went missing. Before committing suicide, Unnikrishnan had deliberately covered the area in which he lay with cardboard.

After retiring from the Air Force, Unnikrishnan joined the post office 10 years ago. Colleagues said that Unnikrishnan appeared mentally disturbed in the last few days. He is survived by his wife Mayadevi, children Vimal Krishna, Vismaya and Vijay.
