Met department predicts thundershowers in nine districts, strong winds likely

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that there is a possibility of heavy rain and strong winds in nine districts of the state on Tuesday night. It is forecast that there is a possibility of thundershowers at isolated places in various districts and winds could reach a speed of 40 km per hour.

Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad districts are predicted to receive rain. The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services also said that there is a possibility of 0.5 to 1.5 meter high waves and rough seas along the Kerala coast till 11.30 tonight and the speed is likely to vary between 10 cm and 55 cm per second.

Fishermen and coastal residents should exercise caution. As there is a possibility of rough seas, it is advised to stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities.

At the same time, IMD has also informed that there is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in 10 districts tomorrow.

According to the IMD, rain with thunder and lightning is possible in Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki and Thrissur districts on April 25 and Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam and Idukki districts on April 26 and 27.
