KOLLAM: The KSRTC has taken disciplinary action against the employees who took leave without prior notice at the depot in the transport minister's constituency. As per the notice from the office of KSRTC's chairman and managing director, 10 permanent drivers were transferred and four empanelled drivers were sidelined after availing leave en masse.
The employees of KSRTC took mass leave without any warning after learning that the vigilance department of KSRTC had arrived to catch those who came to duty drunk. Following this, many services had to be cancelled due to a shortage of drivers. KSRTC also incurred a loss of Rs 1,88,665.
There are lakhs of passengers who depend only on KSRTC. Service interruptions without warning will force them to switch to other modes of travel. The note clarifies that irresponsible activities of a section of employees cannot be tolerated in any way and strict action will be taken against them.
The Vigilance Squad is on strong alert to nab employees who come to work under the influence of alcohol. Minister of Transport KB Ganesh Kumar has stated that the inspection will be tightened to catch drunken KSRTC employees who are on duty. "The government gives priority to the safety of passengers. When the private bus staff were checked, not a single person was found to be drunk," said the minister.
