Saudi Arabia on edge as MERS Corona virus claims one life and infects three

RIYAD: The World Health Organization has reported that three people in Saudi Arabia have been diagnosed with MERS Corona Virus (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome). One of them died. All three are men between the ages of 56 and 60 and natives of Riyadh. The cases were reported between April 10 and 17. Those diagnosed with the disease had previous health problems. The outbreak is believed to be linked to a health center in Riyadh. An investigation has begun to find the correct source. Earlier this year, one person died of MERS in Saudi Arabia.

In 2012, MERS corona virus was first detected in Saudi Arabia. It was later found in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Asia. Cases were confirmed in the US in 2014 and in South Korea in 2015. The disease has been confirmed in 27 countries so far.

This virus is similar to the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes Covid-19. Bats are the source of the virus. It has been found to spread from camels to humans. Spread between humans by contact. So far, 941 people have died out of 2,613 people infected with MERS. Symptoms include fever, cough, shortness of breath, pneumonia, cold, headache, runny nose, sore throat, fatigue, asthma and bronchitis.
