SRINAGAR: People are protesting on the streets in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). People are protesting against high taxes, rising prices and power shortages. Protestors are taking to the streets shouting the 'Azaadi' slogan. There was a huge conflict including in the capital Muzaffarabad as the police tried to suppress the protest

Protesters and police also clashed in areas like Dadyal, Mirpur, Samahni, Seganza, Rawalakot, Khuiratta, Tattapani and Hattian Bala. A police officer was killed and 90 people were injured in the encounter on Saturday. The protest is led by the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee.

The Jammu and Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee had called for a strike on Friday. The Awami Action Committee called for protests demanding tax-free electricity from Mangala Dam and subsidy on wheat flour. After calling for the protest, the police arrested the leaders and workers. The committee had earlier announced that it would hold a long march to Muzaffarabad on Saturday. Videos of police beating protesters with sticks during the march have surfaced. Police fired in the air and fired tear gas to disperse the protesters. The Pakistani government is trying to suppress the protest. A similar protest was held here in August 2023.
