16-year-old boy drowns off Pampa river in Chengannur

CHENGANNUR: A student drowned off Pampa river while swimming on Thursday. Thiruvanvandoor native Akshay R Pillai (16), son of Rajesh and Jayashree, is the deceased. The incident took place on Thursday at 12.30 pm at Eramallikkara Thattavilam jetty in the Pampa river.

Akshay, his friend Mithun and his cousin Ananthu were on their way to take a dip in the river. Akshay slipped and fell into the shallow portion and struggled to stay afloat. Both Mithun and Ananthu tried to save him but failed. They screamed in fear which alarmed the people who were taking baths nearby. The attempts to rescue Akshay by the locals also fell in vain. The body was later brought to the shore with the help of the fire force.

Akshay is a Plus One student of St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Thirumoolapuram. Akshay’s mother Jayashree is also a teacher in this school. The cremation will be held on the house premises at 4 pm on Friday. Akshay’s Father Rajesh who is working abroad will arrive on Friday. Akshara is his sibling.
