THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the state would receive extremely heavy rainfall from today. Following the rain warning, an orange alert has been sounded in Malappuram and Wayanad districts. A yellow alert is in place in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasargod. The IMD had earlier announced that the rain would intensify in the eastern regions afternoon.
The IMD has warned that people living in the eastern region should exercise caution as the region is likely to receive heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms in the afternoon. Following the warning, fishing has been banned in Kerala coast, Karnataka coast and Lakshadweep coast. Fisherfolks have been warned not to go to sea until further notice.
Orange alerts and yellow alerts have been issued for various districts in the coming days in view of the heavy rains.
