NEW DELHI: Delhi police on Saturday arrested Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s personal staff Bibhav Kumar over the physical abuse case related to AAP MP Swati Maliwal. The police arrived at Kejriwal’s residence and detrained Bibhav.

Maliwal had let the political cauldron burn in Delhi after she alleged inhumane torture from Kejriwal’s PA while she visited the Delhi CM’s residence. After the incident became controversial, the National Commission for Women voluntarily registered a case and sought a police report.

An FIR was registered against Bibhav Kumar for attempted murder while Bibhav Kumar also filed a police complaint against Maliwal. On Friday, the Delhi Police and the forensic team, who reached Kejriwal's residence along with Maliwal, recreated the crime scene. Efforts are underway to collect CCTV footage. Statements of eyewitnesses will be taken. Maliwal has given a confidential statement in the Tis Hazari court.

Meanwhile, the party rejected Maliwal's allegation that Kejriwal was present at the residence at the time of the incident. A Hindi news channel had released mobile footage of an argument between Maliwal and security personnel. In the video, Maliwal is seen speaking angrily, asking the staff to leave.

AAP is currently caught in a muddle as their MP Sanjay Singh admitted to Swati getting beaten by Kejriwal’s PA just two days back. The party then changed its stance and conducted yet another press conference to unleash an attack on Swati and dragged BJP into the picture, as they alleged the case to be the handiwork of the saffron party. Maliwal says that on May 13, at nine in the morning, she was sitting in the visitor's room to meet Kejriwal when Bibhav Kumar shouted obscenities without any provocation.

On Saturday morning, AAP on their X page released a few bits of CCTV footage of the incident.
