Bus overturns in Varkala; driver seriously injured, seven passengers in hospital

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Several passengers injured in a bus accident in Varkala. The accident happened when the private bus went out of control and overturned. The incident took place near Vellalur Kesavapuram LP School.

The accident happened around 3 pm today. Unnikrishnan, a private bus on the Varkala-Kallara route, met with the accident. It is reported that the bus overturned when it braked while going down a slope. There were about twenty passengers on the bus. The driver's injuries are serious. He was admitted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. Seven injured passengers have been admitted to a private hospital. The police said that the road was slippery due to rain and this caused the accident.

Meanwhile, there was an accident in Palakkad where a pickup van overturned onto a house. The accident took place near Mannarkkad Chooriyode Bridge. The incident happened this evening. The pick-up van went out of control on the bridge and fell on the house of Abdu, a local resident. The roof of the house collapsed in the accident. A major disaster was averted because there were no residents outside the house. The driver, a native of Tamil Nadu, was admitted to the hospital with injuries.

Meanwhile, eight people died when a tourist bus carrying a pilgrim group caught fire in Haryana's Nuh. 24 people were injured in the accident. The bus caught fire around 1.30 am today. It is reported that around 60 passengers were inside the bus.
