KANNUR: In an alarming incident, burglars entered an expatriate's house in Payyanur and took away 75 sovereigns of gold. The burglary took place at the house of C H Suhara.

Suhara was alongside her husband Amu, who is undergoing treatment at Pariyaram Medical College Hospital. On Monday, Suhara’s son, his wife and children were the only residents of the house and they were on the upper floor. When the family woke up the next morning, they noticed the front door ajar. The lock in the main gate was also found broken. In the subsequent search, the family found that the two cupboards and locker in the house were broken. Iron rods, a machete and a knife were found in the other room.

Earlier, a similar incident happened in Meppadi, Wayanad. 75 sovereigns of gold were stolen by breaking into a locked house. The theft took place in the house of Jacob. The family had gone to Kozhikode for a wedding ceremony when the incident took place. Jacob and his family after reaching back home found the house in disarray with the main door jammed. This led to a suspicion and the incident came to light.
