GURUVAYUR: A devotee has lodged a complaint with the devaswom claiming that the gold locket purchased from the Guruvayur temple is fake. He has demanded an investigation and action. The complaint was filed by Mohandas, a native of Ottapalam Ambalapara.
Mohandas bought a gold locket of Guruvayoorappan weighing two grams for Rs 14,200 from the temple on May 13. Mohandas came to know that the locket was made of fake gold when he came to pledge the locket at the Ambalapara branch of Ottapalam Cooperative Bank due to financial difficulties. The locket was found not to be gold after an inspection at a jeweller. The complaint also demands that devaswom should give him compensation for the loss incurred by him and the humiliation he faced when he went to pawn the fake gold.
Devaswom Chairman Dr VK Vijayan said that the deputy administrator of the temple has been instructed to look into the complaint and submit a report and the complainant has been asked to attend the meeting of the governing body tomorrow. Initial information is that the locket was delivered from the mint in 2004. The Chairman informed that other lockets of this batch were checked and found to be not fake gold, and a detailed investigation will be conducted into the complaint.
