Change in rain warning in state; red alert in two districts tomorrow

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a change in the warning of rain in the state. There is no red alert in any district today. Orange alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki and Thrissur. Yellow alert has also been announced in Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.

The central meteorological department has informed that there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Wayanad in the next three hours.

The central meteorological department has warned that heavy rain will continue in the coming days. A red alert has been announced in Pathanamthitta and Idukki tomorrow. Orange alert has been announced in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram and yellow alert in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.

Idukki and Palakkad districts are on yellow alert on Thursday. Orange alert has been announced in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad and yellow alert in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kannur and Kasaragod.

There is no red alert in any district on Friday. Orange alert has been issued in Idukki and Palakkad and yellow alert in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram. Yellow alert has been sounded in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki on Saturday.

A red alert is issued when there is a possibility of extremely heavy rainfall. Extremely heavy rainfall means more than 204.4 mm of rain in 24 hours.

Very heavy rainfall means 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm of rain in 24 hours, according to the Meteorological Department. An orange alert is declared under these conditions.

A yellow alert is issued when there is a chance of isolated heavy rain. Heavy rains mean rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.
