'Is this action to protect the morale of police'?; criticizes high court 

KOCHI: The high court in a harsh statement asked whether it is right to side with the offenders in the force to guard the morale of the police. The sharp criticism was in connection with the contempt of court plea over misbehavior towards a lawyer at the Alathur police station.

The DGP has issued a circular regarding the manner in which the behavior of the policemen should be. Justice Devan Ramachandran said that it is surprising that action is not being taken against the policemen who are acting contrary to it.

'No matter the level of wrong doing, do you have to side them so that their morale is not destroyed. How do you lose morale if you take action on a crime? If that morale is so weak, let it go', criticized Justice Devan Ramachandran.

If a mistake is committed while in office, then he is not fit to continue in that post. Despite so many allegations leveled against the police officer, the state police chief did nothing. Why supporting someone like this? The court opined that the investigation should always be impartial and will consider the case again on Wednesday.

The court had transferred a police officer for insulting lawyer Aquib Suhail in the case in connection with an accident. Sub inspector V R Rineesh was the officer who insulted the lawyer. He insulted the lawyer again when he came with the court order to release the vehicle. The court intervened after the visuals of it surfaced. The contempt of court case was taken stating that the action of the police officer was against the guidelines issued by the court.

In the meantime, the DGP had also issued a new circular as per the court order regarding the conduct of the policemen. The police officer apologized but the court did not accept it. While further investigation was being conducted into the incident, two more approached the court with a complaint against the accused police officer. These cases were also considered by the court today.
