THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The heavy summer rains will have just two more days of fun in the southern state. Under the influence of cyclonic circulation and low pressure, the first droplets of monsoon rains will breeze the capital city mostly by Sunday.

After Saturday, the intensity of the summer rains will generally decrease. However, in central and northern districts of Kerala, the rainfall will not decrease significantly. There is also a possibility of cloudburst on a small scale in the northern region.

Monsoon was earlier predicted on the 31st, but as per new reports, the dates have been changed. Monsoon has already formed about 500 km south of the Kerala coast.

Just a few days back, Kunnamangalam in Kozhikode received 20.8 cm of rain in 24 hours. This gave a sign of cloudburst. Rains between 5 to 10 cm in two hours are considered as light cloudburst. The depression formed in the Bay of Bengal may reach Bangladesh or Myanmar as an extreme depression on the 25th. It is also likely to form into a cyclonic storm known as the Rimal cyclone. At present its impact may not affect Kerala. However, fishing activities are banned in Kerala minding the turbulent sea attacks in recent days.

Orange Alert
