Youths catch king cobra unscientifically, snake tries to bite many times

THRISSUR: A king cobra was caught dangerously in Echipara. Two youths caught the snake while the forest department officials were watching. It is alleged that the youths caught the snake unscientifically.

A video of the youths catching the snake has surfaced. Anish, a temporary watcher of the forest department, Jayan, beet forest officer, and Velayudhan, a local resident, are seen in the visuals. The footages show the snake trying to bite them many times.

Many including the deputy range officer of the forest department was present in the spot. It is alleged that the youths caught the snake unscientifically and hurt the snake. Moreover, the lapse from the side of the officials of the forest department have been criticized. The residents of the area said they would file a complaint with the forest minister.

The king cobra was first spotted by the locals on the river banks of Echipara. They informed the forest department. The forest department officials then reached the spot along with a local resident and a temporary watcher and were going to catch the snake.

King cobra is a highly venomous snake. So, it should be handled by someone who has received that much training. The adventure of the youths without any security arrangements were such. They were not even wearing shoes. It is clear from the footage that it was only luck that they did not get bitten.

Snake catcher Vava Suresh has responded to the incident. So far, 16 people were bitten while trying to catch snakes. No one has known about it and no one had reported this. Those who do not have any experience and have not even attended a class are simply going and catching snakes. Vava Suresh told a media that action should be taken against those who made them catch the snakes.

A youth identified as Hemant, who worked temporarily in the Anchal range, was bitten by a king cobra two years ago. This did not appear on any social media. He was undergoing serious treatment at the medical college. He was saved only by luck. He escaped after bitten
