THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is rain in various districts of the state since morning. The central meteorological department has informed that there is a possibility of light to moderate rain at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram and light rain at isolated places in other districts.
There is a warning that rains will intensify in central Kerala today. Orange alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam today. Chance of heavy rain at isolated places has been predicted. Yellow alert has also been announced in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Idukki and Thrissur. Ten families were shifted to a relief camp in Kochi's Kalamassery. 11 camps are opened in Kottayam which is under orange alert. The water level in Manimala and Meenachil rivers are still high.
According to the National Center for Oceanography and Research, there is a possibility of 3.0 to 3.3 meter high waves and storm surge along the Kerala coast from 11.30 am to 11.30 pm today with a speed of 55 cm to 70 cm per second.
The central meteorological department informed that it is not advisable to go fishing in the southern Kerala coast and Lakshadweep coast. Meantime, the central meteorological department has informed that there is no disruption to fishing in the Karnataka coast.
